Reef Base consist of naturally occuring reef sand sphere mixed with aragonite coral chips, and comes prewashed and impurity-free. The sphere, hightly porous calcareous shells of simple protozoa (frormineferss) provide a large surface area for both aerobic and anaerobic biological filtration. The hightly buffering capacity of natural aragonite, the most dissolvable from of calcium carbonate, helps to maintain natural, stable levels of pH in the aquarium.
